The oil companies are taking advantage of hard working people, like you and myself.

We have a oppurtunity to break free from the hands that control us and be apart of something that will benifit the rest of humanity.

I urge all of you to research biofuels more before passing judgment on something that can not only be the energy source of the future, but a by product food source as well.

1. Biofuels use renewable recources.
2. It will provides employment in many rural one-industry towns critically dependent upon their natural wood resource such as in the states of Georgia, Wisconsin, Michigan, Maine, Alabama, Arkansas, etc
3. It is a high-tech driven industry and has the most possibility to become a "hot" economic spot that will significantly contribute the national economical growth.

I make Biodiesel from UCO (Used Cooking Oil) and help dispose of a waste material by turning it into a great fuel.
One of the people on the "against" column says it produces 25 % less power. This is not the case with Biodiesel. 5 % is closer to the mark.

Why do we have to be FOR or AGAINST? Surely, like anything, biofuels have a place in the spectrum of solutions to climate change. No one would, in their right mind, support clearing forest to plant biofuel crops, nor advocate diverting food crops to produce fuel. However I can see a place for biodiesel made from algae or WVO supplying heavy transport vehicles. Lets steer clear of silver bullet solutions and focus on holistic solutions.

I am for and against. Yes, Biofuels are helping a bit with the problems of global warming, but think of it this way, its still burning fuel. No matter what it is its still going to damage the world some how or another.

Personally, everything should be powered by batteries. Big huge rechargable batteries! Plug 'em in, charge 'em up, hook 'em up, drive away, repeat when necessary. Either that or God above granting us wings. :P

bio fuel is an excellent energy source. it is absolutely free from pollution because tree takes its co2 from atmosphere at the time of photosynthesis and the same stored quantity of co2 is drawn in the atmosphere in the combustion of bio fuel.thats y there is no chance for co2 increment in the atmosphere...

its all good when we all back to nature, nature knows what best for us if we ever give a damn about it. so bio fuels indeed

While I'm not an expert on the subject, burning any fuel produces CO2. I wouldn't expect biofuel usage to make any positive impact on the cumulative CO2 emissions. This combined with the huge land area required makes me think that we should keep looking if we want to ween our dependency on fossil fuels.

OK now cars consume 25% of our corn crop. This in the form of ethanol made from corn. Hey, I'm gonna hafta take my car to an AA meeting. It's addicted to the great taste of corn.

Biofuels are a much better option than fosil fuels, but it's still not good, and we can do much better. For example:
Sugar is bad, artificial sweeteners are much better but they are also very bad too. Although Biofuels are improving, it doesn't make it good enough. Foolish!

I believe there is a place for biofuels in our society, however the feedstock and or the process in which the feedstock is produced must be better controlled. An interesting article from the April 11th, 2009 Economist reports a supporting theory of "biofools", but with further research there is also a case for continued production. I am still FOR biofuels as a part of the solution. http://www.economist.com/science/displaystory.cfm?story_id=13437705

i think that the biofuels are going to destroy the cultivable fields of the third world countrys like argentina, the place where i live. A possible solution for this problem is to develop better power sources such as solar energy or eolic energy.
My inglish isn's very good but i only want to express this opinion that match whit the opinion of a lot of people in my country.

After 25 years of subsidies biofuel still can't survive on it's own. If biofuel made economic sense it wouldn't have to be subsidized.

Let's subsidize biofuel research but stop subsidizing commercial production that is neither economically nor environmentally sustatinable.

Bio fuels are definitely not a much better option than renewable energy as it is again just another source of carbon dioxide emission.
